EHCC has classification responsibility for offenders who are
assigned to state custody who are housed in local facilities.
Included is information that provides answers to some of the
most frequently asked questions as they pertain to several
categories:
Work Release Program: An offender will not be considered
for work release until the Sheriff or local jail administrator
has recommended him where he is currently housed. This recommendation
must be submitted by the Sheriff or local jail administrator
and not the offender. Contact your local jail administrator
for a possible recommendation. They have the criteria for
recommendation and placement at work release.
Substance Abuse Program: The Blue Walters Substance
Abuse Program is an intense and highly structured nine week
substance abuse program. It
includes the AA/NA 12 Step Program,
Job Skills, Infectious Disease Counseling, Relapse Prevention,
Relationships, Parenting Skills and Anger Management. Offenders
interact daily within a setting of the group and staff counselors.
A recommendation must be obtained by the Substance Abuse Coordinator
or Classification Department at the facility where the offender
is housed.
Time Computation (for offenders assigned to a Local Facility):
The classification staff at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center
computes release dates. Release dates are computed as soon
as possible upon receiving all the necessary data from the
Clerks of Courts and the Sheriff's Office or the parole board.
It is often a time-consuming process. If an offender feels
they are close to their release date, they should contact
the jail administrator to see if they have received a copy
of the master record. The jail administrator will be able
to determine the need for contacting the Department of Public
Safety & Corrections (DPS&C) and may contact us regarding
release dates. A copy of release dates is mailed to the offender
once they are computed.
Parole Board Hearings: Parole Board hearings are scheduled
directly by the Parole Board. They may be reached at 225-342-6622.
Transfers to DPS&C: offenders interested in a transfer
to the DPS&C should contact the local jail administrator.
IMPACT Recommendations (for offenders assigned to Local
Facilities): Offenders court recommended for participation
in the EHCC IMPACT Program should be transferred within 1
month of sentencing. Please contact the local jail administrator
to make sure all paperwork has been sent to the DPS&C.
Contact the EHCC Impact Officer, Yvette Crawford at (225)
319-4224, if the transfer has not been completed within one
month.
